Mission Statement
The mission of the Wu Hsing Tao School (WHTS) is to provide high quality academic and clinical training in Traditional Five Element Acupuncture and Five Element Psychology, incorporating associated fields of philosophy and arts, and to foster an educational community dedicated to energy medicine offering safe, effective holistic health care to the public.
History
The Wu Hsing Tao School was founded in 1997 by Dirk P. Hein, M.Ac (UK) as a post-graduate tutorial program. In 1999, the school became a licensed Washington State Professional Program. In 2006, the program was granted candidate status by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Currently, Wu Hsing Tao School is the only school in the Pacific Northwest that offers a program in Traditional Five Element Acupuncture. The school also has a special emphasis is on teaching the psychology of the Five Elements, which is derived from the Taoist philosophy.
Programs Offered
WHTS offers a diploma program in Traditional Five Element Acupuncture. The master's level acupuncture program is a 3+ year program, which consists of 2 years of didactic instruction and 1+ year of in-depth clinical internship. A unique feature of the school allows the student to continue working while training to become a Five Element Acupuncturist. The format of the didactic instruction consists of four day intensive seminars from Friday – Monday approximately every other month. Between Seminars there is corresponding practicum, applied research assignments and point location labs. During the clinical internship phase, the intern is given continuous feedback about the patient's diagnosis, the treatment strategy performance, and management of patient's needs. Each intern conducts a minimum of 250 treatment experiences.
